You can use our Zapier integration to send SMS messages to your subscribers to remind them about upcoming webinars for example.

This can be done by connecting the SMS service of Twilio with WebinarGeek via Zapier.

Requirements

To send SMS reminders via Zapier’s integration with Twilio, you’ll need:

  • A paid Zapier account for delays and Formatters.

  • A WebinarGeek subscription which includes marketing integrations.

  • A Twilio account with a SMS sender service and number.

Create a Zapier account

You can create an account with Zapier at www.zapier.com. Sign up for a free account using the 'Get Started Free' button. You can also login to an existing Zapier account or select one of the paid subscriptions.

Connect Zapier with WebinarGeek

Zapier and WebinarGeek work together through the use of Zaps. Zaps are managed in Zapier and receive your data from WebinarGeek to send to another tool.

Log in to your Zapier account to establish the connection between WebinarGeek and Zapier.

  1. Click on 'Make a Zap' to create a Zap.

  2. Search in 'Search apps...' for the WebinarGeek app and select it.

  3. Select the 'Trigger', which is the action that sends data to Zapier. You can choose between 'New Registration' and 'Webinar watched'. The first one will be activated when someone subscribes to your webinar, the second one when someone watches your webinar.

  4. In the next step, click on 'Sign in to WebinarGeek', you will be asked to fill in an API key.

  5. Now open your WebinarGeek account in another tab/window. Click on your name in the upper right corner and select 'Integrations'. Then choose Zapier and click to enable it. You can find your personal API key here. Copy and paste this into Zapier.

The connection will now be established and you'll be able to use Zapier together with WebinarGeek. In the next section, we describe what you can do with this connection. Your account details will be saved in Zapier so that you don't have to fill them out next time you create a Zap.

Trouble setting up the connection? Ensure you meet the requirements as described above.

Connect your Zap with Twilio

Now that you have established the connection between WebinarGeek and Zapier you can start to configure your Zap and connect it with Twilio. You can find out here how to set up Twilio.

We ask for your Account SID and Auth Token from your Twilio account
  1. After you have connected your account you can configure which webinars the Zap has to trigger for the 'New Registration' trigger. You can select all or one of your webinars.

  2. When there is a registration for your selected webinar, you'll see the details of your latest registrations in the next step, allowing you to confirm that everything works. You can also see which registration data is available for you to use.

  3. You want to set the reminder SMS text at a certain time before your webinar starts. To do this, you need to specify “Delay Until” in Zapier.

  4. Use a Formatter step to set the correct time before the start of the webinar, use the formatter output in your delayed until field. For example 1 hour before the start.

  5. The next step is to configure the 'Action' of your Zap, this is what will happen when the trigger is activated. You want to select send SMS in Twilio and use the clients phone number from their registration field as receiver.

  6. You can add the watch link and other variables to your text message.

For setting up your phone number in Twilio we advise you to follow the steps from their guides: https://support.twilio.com/hc/en-us
