Conversion tracking

Learn how to track your conversions across your own websites so you can organically grow your market.

Written by Aaron

Conversion tracking helps you measure what attendees do after leaving your webinar, such as making a purchase or completing a booking. By tracking these actions, you can measure webinar performance, identify high-value attendees, and create targeted follow-up campaigns.

Before you start

  • You need an existing webinar.

  • You need access to the website where conversions are tracked.

  • For JavaScript or API tracking, you need access to your website code or development resources.

Creating a conversion tracker

  1. Find your webinar in your webinar overview and click its title.

  2. Click the ‘Edit webinar’ button.

  3. Go to ‘Interactions’.

  4. Go to ‘Conversions’.

  5. Select ‘New conversion’ and set it up according to the kind of conversion you wish to track.

  6. Once this is saved, click on the dropdown menu on the side of your new conversion and select ‘Conversion tracking’.

  7. Choose a tracking method:

    1. JavaScript tracking

Use this option when you can place tracking scripts on your website.

    2. Success page event

Use this option when you have a dedicated thank-you page after purchase.

    3. REST API event

Use this option when conversions are recorded server-side.

  8. If you chose JavaScript tracking, make sure to append the variable wgct={{conversion_token}} to your call to action destination URL to ensure the data is being sent back to WebinarGeek.

  9. Select the most suitable options for your needs and monitor the updated data under the ‘Conversions’ tab of your interactions statistics.

Using conversion statistics to create new email flows

Once conversion tracking is active, you can use conversion data to target follow-up emails to specific attendees. One way you can do this is set up follow-up emails specifically targeting users who purchased something on your website.

Follow the steps below to set up your follow up emails:

  1. Make your way back to the webinar you set up your conversion on.

  2. Click on ‘Edit webinar’.

  3. Go to ‘Emails’.

  4. Select ‘New email’ and select ‘Follow-up email’.

  5. Use an existing email template or a new template.

  6. Design and save your email to your desired look and click ‘save’.

  7. Click ‘Filter recipients’.

  8. Here you will see a number of options, including ‘Converted for the selected conversion’ and ‘Did not convert for the selected conversion’. Choose either or depending on the users you wish to target.

  9. Once that is done, be sure to select the conversion you wish to track.
